Fire resistance

The external skin of the panel is a magnesium cement fibre board.  This forms the external skin and will not rot, burn or corrode.  The magnesium boards  are rated  non-combustible under EN13501 Standards. The insulated polyurethane (PU) core exhibits exceptional fire performance in real fire scenarios, attributable to the panels thermosetting character and high thermal stability. PU insulation does not melt or drip when exposed to elevated temperatures. Instead, the char that forms on the surface of the insulation serves as a protective barrier, safeguarding the core material from decomposition. This characteristic ensures that the structural integrity is maintained for an extended duration, even under severe fire conditions.

Insulation

Polyurethane (PU) insulation has emerged as a leading choice for thermal management in various construction applications due to its exceptional performance characteristics. One of the most significant attributes of PU insulation is its injected foam core, which boasts a thermal conductivity of λ 0.022 W/m·K (aged k). This low conductivity value indicates that PU insulation effectively minimises heat transfer, thereby enhancing energy efficiency within buildings.

The effectiveness of PU insulation can be attributed to its closed-cell structure, which not only provides superior thermal resistance but also contributes to moisture control and sound attenuation. As building regulations and energy efficiency standards become increasingly stringent, the use of polyurethane insulation is anticipated to grow. Its ability to reduce heating and cooling costs while promoting sustainable building practices makes it an invaluable component in the SIPit-FR panel.

Sustainability

SIP is naturally a sustainable construction solution with the fast build times and reduced waste, but partnered with the SIPit-FR it achieves an even better embodied carbon result.

  • Reduced timber reliance

  • Integrated materials, for structure, fire & insulation so less materials and lower emissions in manufacture and transport

  • CO2 absorption during manufacture

  • After installation the panels continue to absorb CO2

  • Enhanced energy efficiency that reduces energy consumption of the end user
